Dr. Ellen Brown Promoted to Chief Medical Director at Pathways Home Health & Hospice

Sunnyvale, CA — September 17, 2014 – Pathways Home Health & Hospice has promoted Dr. Ellen Brown to the position of Chief Medical Director. Prior to accepting the directorship, Brown served as Medical Director for several Pathways programs including Pathways KIDS, adult palliative care, and hospice teams that cared for patients in San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties.

In her new position, Brown is responsible for the medical component of Pathway’s patient care program. She will supervise five medical directors who are members of hospice teams that care for patients and families in five San Francisco Bay area counties. Brown will also provide her medical expertise to the Pathways executive team to help establish policies for physician programs and care delivery models.

Her medical knowledge is invaluable to Pathways as we prepare for future changes in the hospice and home health care landscape.”

Dr. Brown has been a medical director at Pathways since 1998. She holds two board certifications, one in Hospice and Palliative Care Medicine and the other in Internal Medicine. In addition to her patient care, Brown is an adjunct clinical faculty member at Stanford, working with medical students, residents and fellows having developed a home hospice rotation educating them on end of life issues. She is also a faculty member of the Stanford Palliative Care fellowship program. Prior to joining Pathways, she was on the clinical faculty of Stanford with the Stanford Medical Group. Dr. Brown received the 2011 Physician of the Year Award from the California Association for Health Services at Home (CAHSAH). The Physician of the Year Award honors physicians in California who excel in providing patient care in the home including palliative and hospice care.
